Why cobalt is going to be spring summer 2012/13 favourite primary colour...

Although this colour has been a staple peice for Autumn Winter 2012, I think that cobalt will be making a huge comeback for Spring Summer 2012/13. August 15 2012, Spring Summer 2012/13 for David Jones, showcased some amazing colours, prints and fabrics, all that were mind blowingly stunning; from bright devil red's to vivid green to paint sbloched fabrics to my favourite of all cobalt. Although all eyes were very much on Miranda Kerr's jaw dropping figure, I think one key look to come out of this show was cobalt; the perfect primary colour.

“What I love is the use of colour this season,” said Kerr at the pre-show rehearsal. Bright colours went on to dominate most of the show including Jessica Gomes in neon by Camilla & Marc, Julia Nobis in scarlet lace by Scanlan & Theodore, Bambi Northwood-Blyth in florals by Josh Goot, and Rose Smith in Bianca Spender’s flowing teal satin.

This had to be one of my favourites to come out of the show; a long cobalt flowing frock by Roopa Pemmaraju.

Whether sported as socks, a gorgeous boyfriend blazer, a tailored dress or a flowing frock, you can literally dash a bit of cobalt into your style whichever way you like. Cobalt is also a great combination with prints; geometric/floral.

trend spotting; mbfwa 2012 - fluro and prints

These are just some of the many trends that I happened to spot from the Lisa Ho show at MBFWA Spring Summer 2012/13. Sporting colours of navy, white, khaki, canary yellow (as featured), nude and emerald green, just to name a few.

As well as prints; punchy, cartoonish almost, with oversized Hawaiian blooms perking up chic blazers, cropped trousers, thigh-high shorts and gowns. There was much to love from her designs as well as a hint of Dolce & Gabbana creeping in there (if you remember the Dolce Spring Summer 2012 show with the fruit prints). A nice fresh, pungent start to the many prints that were seen this week.

Does this seem to ring any bells?

trend spotting; mbfwa 2012 - print on print

Designers show a blind eye to the famous colour-blocking trend of last year, sporting more geometric, tropical and floral prints, with a particular mention to prints upon prints. Don't be afraid to team a bundle of mish mashed designs. I am seeing a strong focus away from less is more to just role with it type of feel. Take a leaf out of Romance Was Born's fashion week collection.

inspiration; oscar de la renta fall 2012

With my love for fashion and design peaking at an absolute high, I thought that I would focus on a particular designer that has been the inspiration behind my creations. Oscar de la Renta has been an inspiration to me with their beautiful patterns, use of fabrics, colour, style as well as classic vintage beauty look. There is a timeless look about his designs that intrigues me.

Oscar de la Renta Fall 2012

Featured are some of my favourite peices from the Fall 2012 Runway show.  Their Fall 2012 show had an undeniably youthful edge. One candy colored confection after another, dresses were short and girly with little puff skirts and fitted tops. The silhouette is a favorite of fashion It-girls like Alexa Chung; another one of my style icons and fashion idols. A lot of the designs that were featured in this runway collection was inspired by social media. As the OscarPRGirl mentions social media in terms of image sharing has grown in the last few years which has prompted designers to look for inspiration from the ones who mean the most to them; the fashionistas.
